Respected as a visionary, humanitarian, and financial strategist, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe has contributed more than two decades of service in the field of higher education leadership. Formerly serving as the head of several Southern colleges, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe presently teaches students and coordinates educational opportunities for a nonprofit. As an Adjunct Instructor for Capella University, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe teaches finance courses related to the operation of higher education institutions. Dr. Lee Everett Monroe also serves in a diplomatic capacity for the organization Uniqconsult International Limited, whose mission includes advancing educational opportunities for Nigerian students, who often must travel outside the country to obtain an education. A staunch advocate for civil rights and educational equality, Dr. Monroe maintains memberships in the United Negro College Fund, the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, and he serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Throughout his higher education career, Dr. Lee Everett Monroe has built a record of restoring institutions to financial viability. During his tenure as President of Florida Memorial College (now Florida Memorial University) in the early 1990s, Dr. Monroe substantially reduced the institution’s debt, which led to accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Dr. Lee Everett Monroe repeated this success for Paul Quinn College, where he served as an Interim President before becoming President. In addition to improving the financial health of the institution, he established new programs and partnerships to expand opportunities for students, especially working adults. In his capacity as an administrator and leader, Dr. Monroe has contributed to the financial health of other Southern colleges, including Shaw University, which is notable for being the oldest black university in the South. Dr. Monroe earned a Master’s degree in Guidance Counseling and Industrial Psychology from the University of Cincinnati and a Doctor of Education from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
